Maintenance/Relapse Prevention
Exercises that involve reviewing learned skills and planning ahead for any challenges that might arise after therapy is finished. The goal is to ensure that the skills the child has learned are not lost in the future.
What should my therapist be doing?
Reviewing with you and your child the ideas and worksheets that you learned during previous sessions.
Helping you and your child use your new skills in real life situations.
Reminding you and your child that lapses will occur, but that they are typical
What should I be doing?
Encouraging you and your child to continue practicing your newly learned skills.
Helping you and your child to use your skills in new situations.
Asking questions of your therapist as needed (e.g., What should I do if my child’s negative behaviors return?).
How will I know if it is working?
You and your child use your new skills on your own.
You and your child continue to use your new skills in real world situations.
You and your child are able to accomplish tasks you were not able to do before
