Intensive Communication Treatment

This treatment focuses on improving communication and language skills for toddlers and elementary school aged children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  This intervention uses the one-on-one modeling of appropriate communication with other structured teaching techniques to support communication and language development in kids with ASD.

What should my therapist be doing?

• Discussing with you the importance of good communication, the various options to achieve good communication, and how they will work with your child

• Working one-on-one with your child to learn the steps of communication

• Encouraging your participation to learn communication strategies with your child

• Teaching you how to praise your child for good communication

What should I be doing?

• Practicing communication strategies with your child in and out of session

• Providing your child opportunities to practice their new communication strategies

• Praising your child for using their communication strategies

How will I know if it is working?

• Your child will use their new communication strategies

• Your ability to communicate with your child will improve
